Skeleton Cru have won the commission to regenerate the Worthing Underpass and we are asking local artists and schools to enter a competition that offers them the chance to win one of around 120 spaces in the underpass itself where they can showcase their art work in the town centre.
We are also giving businesses the opportunity to sponsor a panel and raise their social profile in the local community, plus; the chance to advertise themselves in our new free community magazine.
The regeneration of the underpass in the town centre is our ‘Seed Project’ within the Worthing Community. Through this project Skeleton Cru aims to not only regenerate this community space, into a valuable arena for the exposure of new artistic talent, but also seeks to use the connections made during this initial project to empower all those involved, through this and many other varied future projects.
By applying a central ‘community themed’ subject, the underpass project provides us with an opportunity to firstly link & bring together, the community through the exposure of its artistic talents, but also to take a new look at what Worthing envisions for itself. By setting the entry age from eight year old artists up, we aim to produce an interesting range of perspectives through which to create a work that gives a positive reflection of what Worthing means to its community, in its past, its present, & its future.
The completion of the project will therefore give Worthing a central focus that really says something personal about the town upon which we will be able to build from. Through business support, school, and funding support, we will then be empowered to empower the artistic community and schools further, with subsequent opportunities involving the community .
To further facilitate this there are great offers for all involved to be taken advantage of immediately. Every one who enters or pledges their support, from schools to individuals, will instantly receive: free website membership worth £40.00,/find out more/(goes to latest news). Plus the opportunity to contribute to a new free magazine in print and on-line /find out more/(goes to latest news); as well as a community CRU headquarters to meet and develop future projects and expand on our communities creativity.
To align Worthing’s regeneration as a central theme, the individuals involved will be able to relate to & also be made to feel that they not only have a direct involvement in the regeneration, more importantly, they will acquire a sense of achievement, inclusion, & continuity, within such an exciting project.
The final images will be chosen by running a competition and as an extra incentive for the individuals, prizes will be supplied by the supporting companies/organisations involved. Here previous monies made from the initial and subsequent projects will go back into a trust fund, to invest and secure the regeneration in five years time.

What’s the twist?
As a Community Interest Company all of the profits Skeleton Cru make from your support will be placed directly back into the community through exciting arts, music, and multimedia events within the town and the underpass itself, that increase footfall and tourism in the community. In this way businesses sponsoring a panel or advertising in the magazine, or on the website, can know that their money keeps on working for them and for their public profile in a new, vibrant, creative and empowered community.
On top of this...
Skeleton Cru C.I.C. is setting up a 5 year regeneration trust from these monies that will not only work to ensure the continuing quality of the artwork and sponsors names throughout that 5 year period, but will also increase through investment over the 5 years and then be used to contribute towards the next regeneration of the underpass in 2012 and the next 5 years later ad infinitum. In this way the underpass project becomes an ever growing seed project that constantly gives to the community.
